Beam combiner for camera and pyrometer

The BeamCombiner BC04 enables the coaxial integration of a camera and temperature measurement into the laser beam path. This allows the molten pool or workpiece surface to be simultaneously observed, recorded and temperature-monitored during the laser process.

Customer problem and requirement

Many laser processes, such as laser hardening, laser cladding and AM processes, require measurement data to be recorded coaxially with the laser beam. At the same time, it is often necessary to monitor the workpiece surface or the molten pool.

However, laser process heads usually have only one light-exit point. This creates the requirement to integrate a camera and temperature measurement simultaneously and in a space-saving manner into the existing laser beam path.

The Mergenthaler solution

The BeamCombiner BC04 enables the simultaneous coupling of a camera and temperature measurement into the laser beam path.

High signal quality is achieved through the spectral separation of the visual signal from the thermal radiation. The camera is connected via a standardised C-mount interface.

Suitable adaptors for various manufacturers’ optics are available for integration into different laser process heads. This allows the BC04 to be flexibly integrated into existing systems and process optics.

Information

The BeamCombiner BC04 was developed for coaxial process monitoring in industrial laser processes. It enables a camera and a temperature sensor to be integrated into the laser beam path simultaneously.

The coaxial arrangement allows the process to be observed directly along the optical axis. This enables the workpiece surface or molten pool to be visually monitored during machining whilst simultaneously recording temperature data.

The spectral separation of the visual camera signal from the temperature radiation ensures high signal quality. The camera connection is a standardised C-mount. Suitable adaptors are available for integration with laser process heads from various manufacturers.

The BC04 is particularly suitable for applications such as laser cladding, DED, LMD, EHLA, additive manufacturing, laser hardening and other laser processes where temperature measurement and optical process monitoring are required directly at the processing point.
